The Big Guns take on New York: Miss GEICO: The Industry’s Preeminent Powerboat Team takes talent and tenacity to Long Island this weekend with self-titled Triple Crown Series

08.20.08

Patchogue, NY - (AUG. 19, 2008) –When it comes to offshore powerboat racing, the picture of performance and perfection is a screaming green lady lizard with a penchant for speed. Miss GEICO heads into the final phase of the 2008 season with a near-perfect record, ready to tally one more win. “The Battle On the Bay” Offshore Powerboat Association Miss GEICO Triple Crown series wakes up the waters off Long Island this weekend, continuing Long Island’s long history of celebrated offshore racing. “The tradition of racing in the Patchogue community is so deep,” said Marc Granet, Driver of Miss GEICO and veteran racer. “It is always an honor and true celebration to bring our best racing to welcoming waters where the fan base is deep and community-wide. That’s always the case in Patchogue.”

New York is known for producing its share of offshore powerboat racing champions. So, Miss GEICO and her crew will be right at home with the next stop on their road to a picture-perfect season. With wins in all major races and a Top Gun accolade in Ocean City, the season’s first race of the Triple Crown Series, claiming that rank again this weekend feels like a formality for the industry’s top team. “We’re confident,” said Miss GEICO Owner John Haggin, “Not cocky. I’m extremely proud of the results our team and crew have put out this year. Every time our guys climb into that top of the line cockpit they are delivering a top of the line performance.  That’s a direct testament to their talent and the unparalleled skill and commitment of the crew.”

The gladiators who are guiding Miss GEICO to historic status in the offshore industry include Granet, a veteran who earned his stripes in the sport’s outboard catamaran classes and Throttleman Scotty Begovich who blazed trails in the vee bottom classes. Both turned their passion and performance up with their entry a few years ago into the unparalleled turbine class. Racing boats on engines that sustain speeds higher than any other boat in the industry redefines expectations for everyone involved. “With every race and endeavor we learn a little more about what our team can do. The formula of combining the best the industry has to offer in racers, crew, and equipment are making this a whole new game. We can’t wait to reach new heights this weekend in New York.”
